pete

Welcome to my web site. Here you find out a little more about me, what I have been doing with myself over the years, my work history which includes some of my port folio, work and other stuff. A bit about me, my name is Pete, I'm 46 going on 22, single, and by trade I am an enthusiastic computer graphic designer and animator. This is a subject that I am best at, academically I was rubbish at school but loved technical drawing and wasn't bright enough to take up engineering or similar interests.

I only realised my potential when I began college having enrolled into graphic design. After qualifying at Hastings College of Arts and Technolgy with a College Diploma and Diploma Membership to Chartered Society of Designers I began work with an MoD company Computing Devices producing marketing material and product proposals. With an introduction to computing and the Apple Mac I entered the print trade and taught myself desk top publishing working sub contract with different companies in and around London.

New and exciting opportunities came along and I left the print trade after some years. My graphics work drying up I volunteered to help a colleague prepare ex-army vehicles to take to the former Yugoslavia for aid work. I helped get the vehicles out to Croatia and Bosnia on four separate trips. This work led me to XWD in West Sussex retailing ex-army vehicles, selling off clothing and kit for private purchase. After being head hunted I moved later into goods-in and the production of Lobster Traps with GT Products. After that I began my move back towards graphics producing labels with a silk screen print company Fine Cut Graphics. Check out my work history pages.

In late 2007 and was diagnosed with a condition called Fibromyalgia and left work. While out of work I have retrained myself in the latest graphic software Adobe's CS3/4 dipping my toe into the world of web creation, learning new skills and grasping the basics of our now high tech digital age. I'm still learning new things daily.

I'm now getting into 3D modeling. Digi-nology as I call it, has had so many exciting new developments, becoming more affordable making all our digital needs more accessable, how it has changed since the eighties. I was introduced to 3d modeling 3 years ago and have been seeking courses ever since. In 2010 I enrolled at Chichester College to begin an IT Practitioners Course in Software Development and have now gained a Level 3 with Double Distinctions. This course has given me an appetite for animation as I have disguvered Autodesk's Max and Maya, not only 3d modeling but animation. This is a powerful and complex software which I have free on a three year student licence. I'd like to persue a career in visual creation. It's very exciting.

Even though I have been out of work for four years, I do keep myself busy on the PC, as you can see from my web site, graphically pretty, technically ok but still a lot to learn. I have taught myself the basics and been playing with 3d modeling software. 2011-12 looks to be as exciting as I have enrolled in an HND in IT.

The following samples were created in Rhinocerus another 3d program but only an evaluation version. As you may tell I like to push things to the max by experimenting, see if I can break the program before it breaks me. The torch was my first sample and then the Harrier. But having dabbled with Autodesk Maya and tought myself some basics in animation I wonder if perhaps I may get into creating games and animated film. Watch this space.

Project torch, after installing the Rhino software, I looked around for something to draw and grabbed this little led torch off my bike, just the sort of first thing to try and illustrate, its just like the real thing.

Okay, Okay, planes! I took three view drawings from an illustrated magazine, scanned them and placed them into their respective views into Rhino. from there I redrew the scans, traced them. Delete the scans leaving the new lines to build the plane. By dragging them to a three dimensional point of reference, began to build a simple three dimensional wire outline. From that I created the solid models.

Above is an animated giff. Nnow I want to learn more! I need more input! Hopefully at some point I will recreate this Harrier in Maya, fully rendered and animate it, so watch this space folks, its just starting to get interesting.
